National bird of India Peacock

The peacock was declared the National Bird of India in 1963,because of its rich religious and legendary involvement in Indian traditions.
The criteria for this choice were many.
The bird must be well-distributed within the country so it could be truly 'national'.
It must be recognisable to the common man

It must lend itself to formal depiction, which means abstract depiction on government publications, etc. It must not be confused with the bird emblem of any other nation. It should be associated with Indian myths and legends. The peacock fulfills all the above characters and rules to be in national bird. The peacock belongs to "Pava Cristatus (linnaeus)" family which is a symbol of grace, joy, beauty and love.
Peacock is a colorful swan-sized bird with a fan-shaped crest of feathers on its head,

white patch under the eye and having a long slender neck.

National flower of India

Lotus is scientifically known as Nelumbo Nucifera which is the      National Flower of India. It is a sacred flower and occupies a unique position in the art and mythology of ancient
India and has been an auspicious symbol of Indian culture since ancient time which is immemorial.
The lotus always grows in ponds with a layer of moss or mud on top of the water.
This symbolizes that, even when it is surrounded by dirt and impurity, it can still grow proud and beautiful.
A single lotus growing in a pond can make even the moss and mud look beautiful.
In the same way, Indians should strive to rise up and grow proud and beautiful even when they are surrounded by impurity or ill faith.
Likewise they should endeavor to make our surroundings not just our
physical but also our mental, emotional and spiritual surroundings, also more beautiful.
